Classical rules from Ratna Pradeep (Gauri Shankar Kapoor) that we follow for every stone we sell. Most sellers will never tell you these.
The blue sapphire trial (mandatory)▾
Neelam can make or destroy
Blue sapphire is the fastest-acting and most dangerous gemstone. Never wear it on the body on day one. Follow this trial:
- Buy on a Saturday. Wash it in gangajal or raw milk, then clean water.
- Worship it per vidhi and chant the Shani mantra.
- Wrap it in blue cloth so it does NOT touch your body.
- Carry or wear the bundle for one full week.
- If you get bad dreams, restlessness, accidents, or illness - remove it immediately and return it to the seller. It is not your stone.
Neelam shows results in 2–3 days, sometimes within hours - which is exactly why the trial is non-negotiable. (Ratna Pradeep, Ch 14)
How to test your gemstone▾
Simple classical tests from Ratna Pradeep (Ch 3, 17). A seller who fears these tests is telling you something:
- Touch test: a real ruby feels COOL on the eyes. Glass or imitation warms up quickly.
- Weight: real stones are heavier (higher specific gravity). Lightness is a red flag.
- Bubbles: any air bubbles inside the stone mean glass.
- Cracks: real cracks are crooked, dull, and irregular. Glass cracks are straight, clean, and shiny.
- Ice test: place the ruby before ice. A real ruby makes a loud cracking sound; a fake stays silent.
- Inclusions: in real stones, inclusions match the stone's color and are never perfectly round. Round, rough, white or yellow spots mean imitation.

Universal preparation (for every stone): Soak in raw milk or gangajal, wash with clean water, worship with flowers, sandalwood and incense, then wear with faith. The stone must touch the skin. (Ratna Pradeep, Ch 14)
Budget-friendly substitutes (uparatna)▾
Classical substitutes the book endorses when the genuine stone is out of reach:
- Ruby → redadi / lal tamda, suryakant mani, red hakik
- Emerald → aquamarine, green zircon, firoza (turquoise), peridot, green hakik
- Yellow sapphire → peela moti (yellow pearl), yellow zircon, sunela
- Diamond → white topaz, white zircon, white tourmaline, white sphatik (min 8 ratti, in silver)
- Hessonite → no substitute recommended; it is already affordable. If you must: gomed-colored hakik.
- Cat's eye → quartz cat's eye, sea cat's eye. Chandrakant is NOT a substitute: it is Moon's stone, and Ketu is Moon's enemy.
Which stones must never be worn together▾
There are two camps: the Surya group (Sun, Moon, Jupiter, Mars) and the Shani group (Saturn, Mercury, Venus, Rahu, Ketu). Cross-camp combinations are harmful. (Ratna Pradeep, Ch 14)
- Ruby: never with diamond, blue sapphire, hessonite, cat's eye
- Pearl: never with diamond, emerald; Coral: never with emerald, diamond
- Emerald: never with pearl, coral
- Yellow sapphire: never with diamond, blue sapphire, hessonite, cat's eye
- Diamond: never with ruby, pearl, coral, yellow sapphire
- Blue sapphire: never with ruby, yellow sapphire
- Hessonite: never with ruby, coral, pearl; avoid with yellow sapphire
- Cat's eye: never with ruby, coral, pearl, yellow sapphire
Also: never wear the gemstone of a 3rd, 6th, 8th, or 12th house lord - even during its mahadasha. It strengthens the malefic and makes it more harmful. Ask us before combining stones.
