Planet Gochar 2026

Every 2026 rashi entry, retrograde span and combust window for the eight grahas, with exact IST timings. Computed from NASA JPL DE440 ephemeris (Lahiri ayanamsa) and checked against two panchang sources.

What is planet gochar?

Gochar is the Sanskrit word for a planet's journey through the zodiac. Every planet keeps moving after your birth, and the rashi it currently occupies is its gochar. Vedic astrology reads this moving sky against your birth chart: when a slow planet like Saturn or Jupiter crosses a sensitive point in your kundali, the themes of that planet tend to come to the front of your life. This page lists every 2026 ingress, retrograde span and combust window for the eight grahas, with exact IST timings computed from NASA JPL DE440 ephemeris and checked against two panchang sources.

All times are Asia/Kolkata (IST) on a 24-hour clock. Computed with the DE440 ephemeris and Lahiri ayanamsa; small time differences against other panchangs are normal (ayanamsa variants, true vs mean positions). Rahu and Ketu use the mean node, so our 6 Dec 2026 ingress may appear as 5 Dec in true-node panchangs. Combust windows are elongation based: the Sun-planet angle falling below the traditional orb. Traditional visibility based asta dates can differ by a few days, and windows touching the year edge are clipped to the calendar year (the Venus, Mars and Mercury windows shown from 1 Jan 2026 truly begin in Nov/Dec 2025).

Planet gochar 2026 by graha

Surya gochar 2026 Sun

The Sun spends about a month in each rashi, and each entry (sankranti) opens a new solar month. Its transit highlights the house it crosses: vitality, authority and the relationship with the father come into focus. Strong in Simha (own sign) and exalted in Mesha.

Mangal gochar 2026 Mars

Mars crosses a rashi in about 45 days. Its gochar adds drive, courage and impatience, and classical texts watch it for accidents and disputes when it is weak. Exalted in Makara, debilitated in Karka. There is no Mars retrograde in 2026.

Budha gochar 2026 Mercury

Mercury is the swiftest graha, changing rashi every two to four weeks, and turns retrograde three times a year for about three weeks. Its transit colors speech, study, trade and travel; the retrograde spans are traditionally used for review and correction rather than new beginnings.

Guru gochar 2026 Jupiter

Jupiter stays about a year in each rashi, so its gochar is the slowest of the visible planets and the most watched for muhurat and dasha timing. It expands and protects the house it crosses. Retrograde about four months each year: the retrograde that began 11 Nov 2025 ends 11 Mar 2026, and the next begins 13 Dec 2026 and runs to 13 Apr 2027.

Shukra gochar 2026 Venus

Venus spends about three to four weeks in each rashi. Its transit favors love, art, comfort and purchases of beauty and luxury. It turns retrograde roughly every 18 months; the 3 Oct to 14 Nov 2026 retrograde dips it back into Kanya for a week before it returns to Tula.

Shani gochar 2026 Saturn

Saturn spends about two and a half years in each rashi, so a single gochar phase shapes years at a time. It rewards patience, discipline and duty, and tests whatever is built on weak foundations. Retrograde about four and a half months each year, 27 Jul to 11 Dec in 2026. Saturn spends the whole of 2026 in Meena (Pisces): no rashi change this year.

Rahu gochar 2026

Rahu moves backward through the rashis, spending about 18 months in each. Its gochar brings sudden change, ambition and foreign or unconventional influences. Mean-node entry into Makara on 6 Dec 2026 at 00:23 IST; some true-node panchangs show 5 Dec.

Ketu gochar 2026

Ketu always mirrors Rahu, moving backward through the opposite rashi. Its transit favors detachment, research and spiritual insight, and can dissolve what Rahu built. Mean-node entry into Karka on 6 Dec 2026 at 00:23 IST; some true-node panchangs show 5 Dec.

Frequently asked questions

What is planet gochar?
Gochar means a planet's transit: the rashi a planet is currently moving through. Vedic astrology compares this moving sky with your birth chart to time periods of growth, pressure and change.
How long does Saturn stay in one rashi?
About two and a half years, so a full cycle through all twelve rashis takes roughly 30 years. In 2026 Saturn stays in Meena (Pisces) the whole year, with no rashi change.
What does vakri (retrograde) mean?
Vakri means the planet appears to move backward against the stars as seen from Earth. It is an optical effect of relative orbital speeds, not a real reversal. Classical texts read retrograde periods as times of review, delay or inward focus for that planet's themes. In 2026, Budha turns retrograde three times, Shukra once, and Guru and Shani once each.
What is a combust (asta) planet?
A planet is combust (asta) when it passes too close to the Sun and its significations are weakened or hidden. The windows on this page are elongation based: the Sun-planet angle falling below the traditional orb. Traditional visibility based asta dates can differ by a few days.
Do Rahu and Ketu ever go direct?
No. The lunar nodes always move backward through the zodiac, so they are treated as perpetually retrograde. Our tables use the mean node; true-node panchangs can differ by a day, which is why some sources show the December 2026 ingress on the 5th instead of the 6th.
Why do gochar timings differ slightly between panchangs?
Sub-day differences are normal. Panchangs use slightly different ayanamsa values and true vs mean planetary positions, so the same ingress can be listed minutes or hours apart, occasionally on adjacent dates near midnight. Dates on this page were checked against two independent sources.
Which planet's gochar matters most?
Slow planets shape the longest chapters: Saturn (about 2.5 years per rashi) and Jupiter (about a year) set the background of a period, while the nodes mark turning points. Faster planets like the Sun, Mars, Mercury and Venus color individual weeks and months. The Moon, changing rashi every 2.25 days, drives the daily rhythm and is covered on our panchang page.
